For the first time in a long time, the RF attacked Ukraine with X-22 missiles. Ignat explained the peculiarity

The peculiarity of the night attack on Ukraine is that Russia used X-22 missiles for the first time in a long time. In total, during the full-scale war, the enemy launched 412 X-22/X-32 missiles, but managed to shoot down 12 of them, reported yuriy Ihnat, Head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command, on the air of Kyiv24.

According to him, Russia regularly attacks Ukraine with drones of various modifications, X-101 missiles, Iskanders, Kalibr, etc., while X-22 or X-32 missiles are rarely used. Their main purpose is to destroy aircraft carrier groups. These missiles can carry different charges, including a special charge, with a combat weight of 950 kg.

"The enemy used 12 such missiles from strategic aviation aircraft in Kyiv today. Before that, there was information that the enemy had relocated Tu-22 M3 aircraft from the Far East closer to Ukraine – Shaykovka, Olenya – to the airfields it usually uses. 12 missiles at the capital is an unprecedented case," Ihnat said.

The Russians began to use X-22/X-32 missiles less in mainland Ukraine after demolished an entire entrance in Dnipro, one of them in the winter of 2023, said the head of the SAR Communications Department. Then 36 people died, including two children. After that, the occupiers focused on strikes in the south: oil platforms, near Zmeinyi Island, and in the south in general.

"A total of 412 X-22/X-32 missiles were used by the enemy against Ukraine. Only three of them have been shot down so far. Today we have nine more. That is, 12 missiles out of more than 400 have been destroyed," said Ihnat.

He explained such a small percentage of downed missiles by the fact that this missile, although cruise missile, attacks along a ballistic trajectory, like the Kindazhlya or Iskander-M. The missile has a speed of about 4000 km/h. Only Patriot systems can intercept them, which was done on January 24, Ihnat said. However, two hits of these missiles on critical infrastructure facilities were recorded.

• As a result of night attack in Kyiv, one person was killed and four were injured. Cars were burning and residential buildings were damaged. In Kharkiv, 19 people were injured, and the enemy damaged houses, a medical facility and a maternity hospital.
• In total, on the night of January 24 Russia launches a new attack on Ukraine 21 missiles and 375 drones. The main target was Kyiv region and the energy sector. Air defense managed to shoot down 357 drones and 15 missiles.
• In the capital again 6000 homes without heatand hundreds of thousands of subscribers in the Chernihiv region are without power.
