A Shahed-136 kamikaze drone that Russia uses to attack Ukraine, a video grab

Ukraine’s air defence destroyed a number of Shahed kamikaze drones that Russia launched overnight on Wednesday in another attack that triggered air raid sirens across the country.

The north, centre, east and part of the south of Ukraine were attacked by Russia's Shahed kamikaze drones, with explosions heard in several cities and regions, starting around midnight.

Out of 26 Shahed drones that Russia used, 21 were shot down, Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, posted on Telegram.

"Thank you all for your combat work," he added.

The Air Force said in a statement that Russia had attacked Ukraine from the north, the Bryansk region of Russia, and from the south, namely the eastern coast of the Sea of Azov.

"The Air Force destroyed 21 attack UAVs in cooperation with the air defence of other components of the Ukrainian Defence Forces," the statement read.

In Kyiv, the city’s military administration said that all kamikaze drones that Russia had launched had been taken down.
