Police searched Musk's offices in Paris. The entrepreneur claimed a "political attack"
On Tuesday, February 3, law enforcement officers in France, with the participation of Europol, searched the Paris offices of Company X, owned by an American businessman Ilona Mask. Prosecutors have launched an investigation into social network X and its artificial intelligence Grok over the alleged distribution of pornographic deepfakes and anti-Semitic content. This was reported by paris prosecutor's office, Le Monde and CNN.
The investigation is looking into whether Musk's platform violates national laws on digital security and countering hate speech. Prosecutor Laura Beccuo explained that the investigation, which initially focused on suspected algorithm abuse, was expanded to include Grok's "sexual dipshots" and the distribution of "Holocaust denial content."
The billionaire was summoned for questioning in April as part of an expanded investigation into the network's activities. X's chairman of the board and former CEO Linda Iaccarino were also summoned to a hearing in April, while X employees will be questioned as witnesses.
The prosecutor's office noted that the search was related to an investigation launched by France in January 2025. At that time, MP Eric Botorel filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office condemning the changes made by Musk to the way the platform operates, in particular to its recommendation algorithms. According to the complainant, the algorithms were changed to promote certain types of content, which may amount to the offense of "obstructing or distorting the functioning" of an IT system. This charge is usually brought in cases of hacking.
"I am glad that my complaint of January 2025 had an effect!" wrote Botorel in X on February 3.
The prosecutor's office also published a notice of searches at the company's premises. However, the agency soon announced that it was leaving the platform, after which profile has become unavailable.
After the searches, Musk said about a "political attack". For its part, the social network X condemned "abuse of a law enforcement act" based on "political motives," stating that she "will not be intimidated."
- In December 2025 The EU fines social network X for 120 million euros due to pseudo-verification of users using "blue ticks", which caused an angry reaction from the highest US officials.
- In January 2026, the European Commission launched an investigation against social network X in connection with the spread of sexualized imagescreated with the help of Grok's built-in AI.
