The capacity of one nuclear power plant unit: Ukraine received gigawatts of power equipment from partners
Ukraine received energy equipment from its partners with a total capacity of about one gigawatt. This was announced by the deputy prime minister for reconstruction and minister of community and territorial development Oleksiy Kuleba, Suspilne reports.
According to the official, the partners provided more than 700 units of power equipment for about 1 GW, which is the output of one unit of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant.
These include boilers, cogeneration units and high-capacity mobile generators that Ukraine received from Azerbaijan, Belgium, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and the United States.
Over the past week, the partners have handed over more than 100 units of such equipment, Kuleba said.
"Ukraine needs additional capacity to ensure the stable operation of treatment facilities, heat and water supply. We are creating a national reserve of mobile power equipment. It will allow us to maintain basic services for people during repairs, which is especially important in winter," the minister said.
Earlier, on January 21, the government sent UAH 2.56 billion from the state budget reserve fund to form a reserve with a capacity of 130 megawatts. However, Ukraine's need is greater – and therefore the Ministry of Development will turn to partners for support, the head of the department added.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that as of January 15, after massive Russian attacks, the electricity shortage in Ukraine amounted to 7 GW.
- On January 29, Ukraine received the second batch of energy aid from Italy – 78 units of industrial boiler equipment with a total capacity of more than 112 MW.
- The next day, Ukraine and the European Investment Bank found a solution to support the power system due to massive Russian attacks.
