Ukraine ranks 20th in the Global Firepower ranking of the world's strongest armies
In 2026, Ukraine ranked 20th in the ranking of the world's strongest armies. About reported global Firepower, an analytical resource that has assessed 145 armies around the world.
A country's place in the global military power rankings is assessed based on more than 60 indicators. These include not only the nominal number of soldiers and military equipment, but also economic and demographic potential.
The analysts identified the strengths of the Ukrainian army as the following:
→ size of the active army (number of soldiers and reservists, as well as military equipment),
→ coal production volumes;
→ naval potential;
→ size of the railroad network;
→ the amount of defense spending.
Weaknesses include:
→ lack of submarines and large warships, own tankers;
→ large volumes of coal, oil, and gas consumption.
In the ranking, Ukraine was ranked next to Egypt (19th) and Poland (21st) based on a set of factors.
