Draft resolution dubbed "Ukrainian victory" submitted to Congress
A bipartisan draft resolution entitled "Ukrainian victory" was submitted to the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress, reports the Voice of America.
The draft resolution "Ukrainian victory" states that the return of the entire territory of Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders of 1991 to the control of Kyiv should be considered a victory for Ukraine.
"U.S. policy is for Ukraine to defeat the invasion and restore internationally recognized borders from 1991," the draft reads.
It also noted that "the peace that a victory for Ukraine will bring must be secured by Ukraine's integration into NATO and other Euro-Atlantic institutions," and that Washington "must work with its allies and partners to ensure that the Russian Federation pays reparations to Ukraine, and the world community will help rebuild Ukraine."
The resolution demands that the leaders of the Russian Federation be "brought to justice for this war of aggression" and that justice be restored "for the victims of the crimes committed by the Russian Federation during its invasion."
The authors of the project were Republican Joe Wilson and Democrat Steve Cohen, the co-chairman of the Helsinki Commission in Congress.
On February 17, five U.S. congressmen from both parties sent a letter to President Joe Biden with a request to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets.
On April 18, President Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, and discussed with him the issue of military aid and sanctions pressure on the aggressor state.
