According to the Swiss police, about 40 people were killed and 115 injured in a fire in a bar in the ski resort of Crans-Montana during the New Year's Eve celebrations, the Bloomberg.

France and Italy said some of their citizens were among the victims. Local officials say the fire was the result of an accident.

A fire broke out in the Le Constellation bar early Thursday morning. According to eyewitnesses, a bottle with a candle (according to other sources, a sparkler) was held too high and caught fire in the ceiling of the bar.

The media reported an explosion at the scene, but local authorities said it was caused by flames, not the other way around.
