Iran wants to change the venue and format of nuclear talks with the United States. This was reported by the media Axios citing two unnamed interlocutors with knowledge of the matter.

They said that Iran is demanding a change in the venue and format of the talks with the United States on Friday, February 6. If the talks are disrupted, it could push the US president to Donald Trump before the war.

The interlocutors said that the Iranians were rejecting the agreements reached recently, after several countries had already been invited to participate in the talks. They want to move the talks from Istanbul to Oman.

Tehran has also expressed a desire to hold them in a bilateral format, only with the United States, and not with the participation of several Arab and Muslim countries as observers.

Such new demands from Iran are seen as a signal of a stronger position and may mean that Tehran wants to discuss only the nuclear program, not other issues related to regional security or missile programs, the media writes.

  • On January 18, 2026, Axios wrote that the U.S. military was ready on Trump's order to strike Iran, but it never came.
  • On January 26, the US president said that the situation with Iran is changing, as he has sent a "great armada," but the politician believes that Tehran really wants to make a deal.
  • Khamenei threatened regional war if the United States launched strikes against Iran.
  • on February 2, Axios wrote that the negotiations will be attended by Vitkoff, Iranian Foreign Minister, and representatives of several regional powers.
