The aircraft, equipped with advanced ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) sensors, is reportedly used by the United States to monitor activity in the region, including the movement of Russian troops in Crimea.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, US and NATO reconnaissance aircraft have been regularly operating in international airspace over the Black Sea. These missions are aimed at gathering strategic intelligence and continuously monitoring Russian forces based in Crimea and along the eastern coast.
