German Foreign Minister: Ukraine defends Europe from Putin's threat
Ukraine is now defending not only its sovereignty, but also the security and freedom of Europe from the aggression of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. This was stated by German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadefuhl during his visit to Kyiv.
"Ukraine will decide whether our Europe will remain a place where human freedom and dignity are important, or a continent where violence changes borders," he said .
German Foreign Minister says Putin wants to use force to conquer Ukraine, he wants its surrender. Russia is counting on its allies to weaken their support.
"Putin does not want peace. He wants conquest and subjugation, and he wants it at any cost – even at the cost of hundreds of thousands of new lives. But we will continue to stand firmly by Ukraine so that it can continue to successfully defend itself. This is the promise with which I am going to Kyiv today," Wadeful emphasized..
Germany intends to continue to support Ukraine and to limit Putin's ability to finance the war through sanctions. The work on this is ongoing, with maximum pressure on the European Union and G7 partners.
In addition, Putin's actions should serve as an "urgent warning" for Germany, the diplomat said. Against this backdrop, NATO members' increased defense spending demonstrates their willingness to defend the freedom and security of the West.
"The ideology of imperialism that drives Putin is the greatest threat to our security in Germany and Europe," – Wadefull summed up.
- In an interview with German media, the German Foreign Minister warned that the threat posed by Russia to both the country and Europe as a whole should not be underestimated.
- On the morning of June 30, he arrived in Kyiv on his inaugural visit. German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger met him at the train station.
