Macron says he is ready to "react decisively" if Russia does not agree to a truce
France, along with all Europeans and in close coordination with the United States, will be ready to "respond decisively" if Russia does not agree to a 30-day ceasefire. This was reported by French President Emmanuel Macron in a statement on social network X (formerly Twitter).
He said that last night he had several phone conversations with US President Donald Trump.
According to Macron, he welcomed his American counterpart's clear call for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire. The French President added that on the morning of May 9, this call was supported by British and Scandinavian partners.
"We all have to work on this without delay, without pretense or delaying tactics," the French leader emphasized.
He reminded that Ukraine agreed to the ceasefire about two months ago.
"Now I expect Russia to do the same. If it fails, we will be ready to respond decisively with all Europeans and in close coordination with the United States," Macron emphasized.
- on April 28, 2025, Macron said that Europe and the United States would increase pressure on Russia to agree to a ceasefire.
- The day before, after speaking with Zelensky, Trump once again called for a ceasefire in the Russian-Ukrainian war and threatened sanctions.
