Back in 2022, the United Nations decided to recognize the occupation of Ukrainian territories by Russia as illegal. About this said foreign Ministry spokesman Georgiy Tykhyi on Russia's appeal to the UN for "self-declaration" of Donbas.

"Someone should tell these idiots that the UN has already responded: in October 2022, 143 members of the UN General Assembly rejected Russia's illegal seizure of territory. Bingo card: get out of Ukraine," he said.

This statement was made against the backdrop of Russia's attempts to "equate" the occupation of Ukraine's territories with the situation around Greenland, which "for the sake of safety" the President of the United States wants to own Donald Trump. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow had even asked the UN whether the occupation of Ukrainian territories could be recognized as a "right to self-determination" similar to Greenland.

UN Secretary-General at a press conference saidthe Ukrainian government has stated that the principle of a nation's right to self-determination cannot be applied to the Ukrainian Crimea and Donbas.

  • The President's Office said that Russia wants to occupy Donbass in the spring of 2026. But the tasks have been postponed a million times.
  • Zelensky called the least problematic the decision on Donbass "We stand where we are" strategy.
