The largest attack on Ukraine: Russia fires 728 drones and 13 missiles
On the night of July 9, Russia launched 741 air strikes against Ukraine, including 728 drones of various types. Air defense managed to neutralize 718 targets, reported Air Force.
The enemy attacked with Shaheds and imitator drones from the directions of Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk, Orel, and Millerovo. Seven X-101/Skander-K cruise missiles were launched from the Engels area in Saratov region and Kursk region.
Six more X-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles were launched by the Russians from the airspace of the Lipetsk region. The main direction of the attack is Volyn, the city of Lutsk.
As of 08:30, 718 air attack vehicles have been neutralized, of which 303 were shot down and another 415 were lost in the area. In particular:
→ 296 enemy UAVs were shot down, 415 were locally lost/suppressed by electronic warfare;
→ seven X-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles shot down.
Enemy air strikes were recorded in four locations, and downed aircraft in 14 locations.
The mayor of Lutsk reported that the city suffered the most massive attack – Russians launched drones and rockets for several hours. According to the emergency services, fires broke out on the territory of a garage cooperative and one of the city's private enterprises. No injuries were reported.
In Brovary district, Kyiv region, a woman was injured in a UAV attack – she was hospitalized with a closed chest fracture.
- In June, Yuriy Ignat, head of the public relations service of the Air Force Command, reported that Russia was increasing drone production, using up to 500 per night. However, according to him, it's too early to talk about 1000 drones in one attack.
- On July 4, Russia set an anti-record, by using more than 330 Shahed drones during the attack, Air Force spokesman Ignat said.
- On the night of July 9, Poland scrambled planes and increased security on the ground because of the Russian attack. Polish and allied fighter jets monitored the airspace for several hours.
