The United States Department of State has updated its warning for its citizens, urging them to leave Russia and not to travel there. This was reported by reported Fox News channel.

The State Department has renewed its warning against travel to Russia. It was reissued this week without changes, with the State Department citing numerous high risks related to terrorism, wrongful detention, and "arbitrary application of local laws."

The statement notes that officials' ability to provide assistance to Americans is limited after the embassy in Moscow reduced its staff and consulates in Russia suspended their operations.

"U.S. citizens in Russia should leave the country immediately. Russian officials have frequently questioned and threatened U.S. citizens without reason," the State Department said in a statement.

The warning states that there are precedents for Americans being arrested by Russian special services on false charges.

"They denied them [the Americans] fair treatment and convicted them without convincing evidence," the State Department added.

Travelers were also advised to reconsider the advisability of bringing electronic devices into the country. It should be assumed that all electronic communications and devices are being monitored.

Due to sanctions, American debit and credit cards no longer work in Russia, and "sending electronic money transfers from the United States to Russia is virtually impossible," the statement said.

The warning states that tourists who decide to travel to Russia should be "prepared for the possibility of being detained indefinitely."

"Log out of all your social media accounts and do not log into them while in Russia," the recommendations also suggest.

The U.S. government has issued other travel advisories in recent weeks. For example, due to rising tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, the government has warned Americans against traveling to the border area between the two countries.
