Video of a man being beaten in Odesa goes viral. The TCC speaks of self-defense and "selective editing"

In Odesa, soldiers of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support used physical force against a man who was wanted for violating the rules of registration. The TCC reacted to the video of the beating that is being spread in local publics – they talk about "selective editing".

The video was filmed on February 4 in the Peresypskyi district of Odesa. In the published footage, a man was running, a military TCC member grabbed him by the hood, after which he fell to the ground and was beaten with his feet and hands.

According to the military, the man reacted "aggressively" to a legitimate request to go to the district TCC to clarify his credentials and draw up the necessary documents and, according to preliminary data, committed "physical resistance and assault on a serviceman.".

"In order to stop the illegal actions, self-defense and administrative detention, the citizen was subjected to physical force. Subsequently, the person was taken to the TCC and the JV to draw up administrative materials and carry out the prescribed procedures," the statement reads.

At the same time, the TCC claims that the published video "does not reflect the full chronology of events and has signs of selective editing, which may distort the actual circumstances of the incident, in particular the moment of the illegal actions of the citizen.".

The management of the Odesa Regional TCC initiated an internal investigation to assess the actions of all participants in the event and to verify that the military complied with legal requirements and service instructions. Based on the results of the inspection, an appropriate legal assessment will be provided and a decision will be made in accordance with the established procedure, the TCC assured.

Caution, the video contains a lot of profanity.

  • According to the January KIIS poll, every third Ukrainian believes that there is not enough democracy in the country, and one of the reasons is the TCC. However, in general, only 6% of Ukrainians believe that there is not enough democracy in the country and at the same time explain this by the actions of the TCC.
