US Ambassador to NATO reacts to Zelensky's statement on peace by summer

U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker questions the President's statement Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Washington's proposal to end Russia's war against Ukraine by early summer. The official was quoted by the British newspaper The Guardian.
The US ambassador to NATO said that "President Zelensky mentioned this June deadline."
"I don't think the United States has announced anything like that," Whitaker said.
According to him, the United States wants the fighting to stop, and both sides to unite and agree on a peace deal.
"We would like that to happen as soon as possible, and... we just want... the suffering and the killing in Ukraine to stop," Whitaker said.
He emphasized that setting deadlines in such circumstances is usually "very dangerous."
"We want a peace agreement to be signed. I think we will just do it when it is ready. But in the end, both sides, the Russians and the Ukrainians, have to agree to any agreement that is reached," the official summarized.
- On February 7, 2026, Zelensky stated that The US proposes to end the war Russia against Ukraine by early this summer. He suggested that the United States would put pressure on the parties in accordance with this schedule.
- Sybiha, in turn, said that Ukraine wants to speed up the completion war, in particular before the American elections.
