Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has been given three key tasks in his new position: "to close the sky", to resolve the issue of mobilization and the contract army. "There are three key tasks that I have set for Defense Minister Fedorov. Number one is to close the sky. Together with the Air Force, with Chief of Staff Syrsky, with Commander Krivonozhko. Closing the skies is important in any case, regardless of how the situation develops. This is their task for today. It is a very difficult one, but that is why it is number one," said the president.
Point number two – "to deal with the issue of busification".
"Point number three: I asked [Deputy Head of the Presidential Office] Palisa, together with Fedorov, to put an end to the unresolved issues regarding the contract army, all contract formats, of which there are many already developed, contracts should really work," he said .
According to Zelenskyy, there is also the issue of drones and artillery replacement, so that Ukraine does not overpay and does not buy both drones and artillery.
"Because the budget is the budget, and the size of our artillery and drones is growing. The military used to say that if there are more drones, less artillery will be needed. Now the request is that we need more drones and more artillery. We understand that this is a complicated issue – a long-range projectile. And short-range artillery doesn't work anymore, to be honest. Because the kill zone is already bigger, wider than the capability of the projectile," Zelensky said.
He added that Palisa and Fedorov are also working with the Cabinet of Ministers, because the closure of the sky is related to energy.
- on January 14, the Verkhovna Rada voted to appoint Fedorov as the new Defense Minister.
- Speaking from the rostrum of the Ukrainian parliament, Fedorov said that "the problem of the TCC cannot be ignored" and announced the presentation of his "vision" on the issue. He said that about 2 million people in Ukraine are currently wanted by the TCC, and another 200,000 have gone into hiding.
- After the appointment of a new deputy commander of the Air Force, Fedorov emphasized that the task is to build an "anti-drone dome" over Ukraine.
