Sybiha commented on Medynsky's return to negotiations. He mentioned "historical pseudo-lectures"
Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiha does not know what the return of the Russian dictator's aide means Vladimir Putin Vladimir Medinsky to the negotiation process, but recalled his "pseudo-lectures" at previous meetings. He expressed this opinion during a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the LIGA.net.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy thanked the American side for its leadership, involvement and facilitation of the negotiation process. He also responded to Medynsky's participation in the next round of talks in Geneva.
"We'll see. I will be able to comment after the meeting on what the arrival of this gentleman you mentioned means. But we remember very well. Previous experience shows that, as always, some historical pseudo-lectures will be read. Ukraine does not need this," Sybiha said.
He emphasized that no one will dictate Ukraine's history. In the negotiations, Ukraine is focused on a concrete result. The Foreign Minister believes that after two rounds of talks in Abu Dhabi, "progress has been made."
Medynsky is a native of the Cherkasy region of Ukraine. In 2022, he headed the Russian delegation at the negotiations after the start of the full-scale invasion.
He publicly promoted the Kremlin's narrative of the "unity of Russians and Ukrainians" and denied the separateness of Ukrainian history. As Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, he actively supported policies aimed at shaping the Russian state version of history, including the events in Ukraine.
His statements have repeatedly drawn sharp criticism from Ukrainian historians and officials.
- On February 17-18, Geneva will host a new round of negotiations with the participation of Ukraine, Russia and the United States. Medinsky will again go on behalf of the Russian Federation.
- At the previous trilateral meetings in Abu Dhabi, the Russian delegation was headed by the Chief of the General Staff, Kostyukov. The Russian delegation included included representatives of military intelligence and the army.
- Sybiha said that the delegation Russia sent to the trilateral meetings in Abu Dhabi has changed qualitatively – There were no more "pseudo-historical lectures".
