There will be sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine. The European Council made a statement
The European Council discussed with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Russia's war against Ukraine and reaffirmed its support for achieving a "comprehensive peace." This is stated in the communiqué following the meeting in Brussels.
The European Council condemned the ongoing shelling of Ukraine and called for a ceasefire. To achieve this goal, the European Union is ready to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
"The European Council calls on Russia to show real political will to end its aggressive war, agree to a ceasefire and start meaningful negotiations," the statement reads.
The EU also insists on the need to continue the exchange of prisoners, return of abducted children and other illegally deported persons from Russia and Belarus. Europe, for its part, will continue to provide military, financial and other assistance to Ukraine.
"The European Commission calls on Member States to continue to step up efforts to meet Ukraine's urgent military and defense needs, in particular the supply of air defense and anti-drone systems, as well as large-caliber ammunition, to help Ukraine," the communiqué says..
The European Union, together with its partners, is determined to limit Russia's ability to continue the war. Therefore, measures against the energy and financial sector, including the "shadow fleet", will continue.
Europe also condemned the military support of Russia by Iran, Belarus and North Korea. And they reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with European leaders and NATO Secretary General Rutte on the sidelines of the summit in Brussels. They discussed, among other things, the importance of strengthening Ukraine's air shield.
