Ukraine wants to accelerate the end of the war, in particular, before the US elections, says Sybiha
Ukraine wants to accelerate efforts to end the full-scale Russian war and use the momentum of the US-mediated talks before other factors come into play. This was stated by foreign minister Andriy Sybiha in an interview with Reuters on February 6.
As an example of such factors, the official named the election campaign for the midterm elections to the US Congress scheduled for November.
Sybiha also stated that "only [US president] Trump can stop the war".
Re 20-point peace plan, which became the basis for the recent negotiations Ukraine, Russia, and the United States, the minister noted that only "a few" points remained unresolved.
These are the "most sensitive and complex" issues to be resolved at the level of leaders, the official added.
"In my assessment, we have momentum, it's true. We need to consolidate or mobilize these peaceful efforts, and we are ready to speed up the process," the official said.
Earlier, president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Washington offers Moscow to end the war against Ukraine by the beginning of summer.
- In the same interview, Sybiha said that Ukraine will not recognize its temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas as Russian and will not support agreements such as the "Dmitriev package", concluded without it.
