Zelensky: Americans offer Russia and Ukraine to end the war by early summer

The United States proposes to end Russia's war against Ukraine by early this summer. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a meeting with journalists, the correspondent reports LIGA.net.

"The Americans are offering the parties to end the war by the beginning of this summer, and they are likely to put pressure on the parties according to this schedule," Zelensky said.

The Head of State added that domestic issues in the United States have an impact and will surely become even more relevant for them.

The president was asked whether this meant that the Americans might withdraw from the negotiation process if peace is not reached. He replied that he had not received such messages from the negotiating team.

According to the president, it is desirable for Ukraine that the United States does not withdraw from the negotiations. And the Russians also need the Americans to stay.

"As for the Americans, they will probably just have a different priority – Congress. And we understand with you that they will devote all their time to internal processes – elections, changing the mood in their society. Elections are definitely more important to them," Zelensky explained.

That is why the Americans want the war to end by June and will do everything to make it happen, he said.

"Basically, we have long suggested that the American side should have a really clear Sequence Plan. So that everyone understands what the parties are doing, at what point, at what stages. So that the war does not drag on, because we really want to end the war and guarantee security," Zelenskyy said.

The president was also asked whether it is possible to sign security guarantees with the United States if the war ends by June.

"The American side said that one of the possibilities is that all the agreements should be signed at about the same time. I'm not saying it's right at the same time, but they are talking about the same time," he said.

• During the talks in Abu Dhabi on February 4-5 with the participation of Ukraine, Russia and the United States the parties reached an agreement on the exchange of prisoners, and methods of implementing and monitoring the ceasefire were also discussed.
