Ukraine expects the United States to respond to Russia's massive blow to the Ukrainian energy sector on Tuesday night. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported in his evening video address.

"We expect the United States to respond to Russian strikes. It was America's proposal: to stop strikes on the energy sector for the time of diplomacy and such cold winter weather," the Head of State said.

He recalled that there was a personal request from the US President Donald Trump. However, Russia responded to this request with a ballistics record – less than four days have passed since the week requested by Russia.

"This also speaks to everything else that Russia has promised or may yet promise. If they are not keeping their word now, what can we expect in the future? They lied before this war, and Russia started a full-scale war, trying to deceive everyone around them about their intentions and about Ukraine," Zelensky continued.

The President noted that the agreements with the United States were again a Russian deception. He added that Moscow is "incorrigible" and wants to take advantage of the cold because it cannot conquer Ukraine with its assaults.

  • On January 29, 2026, Trump announced that personally asked Putin not to shell the Ukrainian energy sector for a week due to the increasing frost.
  • Zelenskyy thanked the US president and emphasized that Ukraine calculates to fulfill these agreements.
  • On the night of February 3, Russia carried out another massive blow in Ukraine, the energy sector was under attack.
