Cherkasy police chief suspends his duties after law enforcement officers killed
The head of the Main Department of the National Police in the Cherkasy region, Oleh Hudyma, has temporarily suspended his duties. This is stated in his statement on the official website of the regional police.
Gudyma said he made the decision in response to the tragic events in the region. He suspended his duties for the duration of the investigation.
"This is my balanced decision, dictated solely by the need to ensure the objectivity and credibility of the investigation," the statement said.
Gudyma also expressed his condolences to every family affected by this tragedy.
"The memory of the victims obliges us to act in the most responsible and impartial manner," he summarized.
As reported by Public, on Sunday, February 1, about 350 people, mostly veterans, gathered in the center of Cherkasy for the rally.
They demanded an objective investigation of the events in the village of Nekhvoroshch near Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi. The shooting killed four law enforcement officers and the former soldier who opened fire on them.
In addition, the protesters demanded that the body of the deceased veteran be returned to the family and that Hudyma be brought to justice.
