Police reveal chronology of murder of four law enforcement officers in Cherkasy region

The murder of four policemen took place in Korsun district of Cherkasy region, where a former soldier hiding in the forest opened fire on law enforcement officers. This was reported at a briefing reported oleh Hudyma, Head of the Main Department of the National Police in Cherkasy Oblast.

He said that investigative actions were taking place in the area that day. The man suspected of committing the crime, seeing the police, began to hide. He fled the house, taking a bulletproof vest and an automatic weapon with him.

The man was hiding in a forest area. When the police approached, he opened fire on them. As a result, four police officers were killed and another was wounded. The attacker was killed.

Gudyma clarified that he is a 59-year-old local resident and former military man.

A criminal investigation has been opened under the article on murder or attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. The State Bureau of Investigation will assess the correctness of the police officers' actions, Gudyma said.

He clarified that three of the deceased served in a special police unit, and the fourth was a community officer. They took part in repelling Russian armed aggression and were combatants.

Gudyma in a commentary to Suspilne saidreported that police were establishing the man's involvement in an attempted murder that took place in December 2025 in the Korsun district. The media outlet, citing an unnamed law enforcement source, added that it was an attempted murder of a city council member.
