It will be -30 in some places: a sharp cold snap is coming to Ukraine in early February

In early February, significant frosts are expected in parts of Ukraine, said the State Emergency Service, citing forecasts from the Ukrhydrometcenter.
Experts predict a sharp decline in temperature from the 1st to the 3rd.
"At night, except for Transcarpathia and the southern part of the country, the temperature will drop to -20-27, in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Sumy, Poltava and Kharkiv regions, and in Kyiv – to -20-25. During the day, it is forecast to be -15-22 below zero," the post says.
It is also expected that in some places the frost will reach -30, which is the third, red, level of danger.
However, by February 4-5, experts predict a gradual decline in cold weather in the west and southwest of Ukraine.
In addition, the SES warned that on January 29, fog would remain in Kyiv and the region until the end of the day: visibility is 200 to 500 meters, and the first (yellow) level of danger has been declared.
Drivers and pedestrians were urged to be careful and cautious.
- On January 29, US president Trump announces that, at his request, dictator Putin has agreed to stop shelling Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities per week due to increasing frost.
- President Zelenskyy thanked his American counterpart, but noted that the real situation would show whether it will be implemented.
