The head of the National Police revealed the details of the murder of police officers: Combat status is no excuse
The status of a war veteran cannot justify deliberate and brutal killings. About this said head of the National Police of Ukraine Ivan Vyhivskyi told Censor.NET in a commentary, telling about the details of the shooting in Cherkasy region.
According to Vyhivskyi, investigators and operatives with the force support of a special police unit arrived in the village to conduct searches of a person suspected of committing a serious crime. The police informed him about the start of the investigation, communicated calmly and took into account his status as a war veteran.
However, the suspect barricaded himself and did not cooperate. The police invited his brothers to talk to him, and at that time the man quietly left the territory of the household and ambushed him near the road in a wooded area.
His brothers did not find him in the house and wanted community members to be witnesses during the search. Community police officers went to search for them. They became the first victims of the attack: the suspect shot at their car at close range, killing one police officer and wounding another.
"Then he came close to the wounded man and tried to shoot him. When our police officer said that he was a local POG (community police officer) and the suspect recognized him, the attacker told him "Okay, live" and went into ambush," the National Police chief added.
The shooting at the community police officers took place about 500 meters from the suspect's house. After that, the attacker opened fire on the special forces who arrived at the scene. In particular, he killed the police officers, who were still alive but wounded. As a result, the shooter was eliminated.
"We respect all military and veterans, many of whom are also police officers, but combat status is not a justification for premeditated murder, especially with such brutality," Vyhivskyi concluded.
- on January 27, the head of the National Police reported that in the Cherkasy region four policemen were killed. According to him, it was done by a man wanted for murder.
