An unknown drone crashes on the territory of a military unit in Poland
On Friday, February 6, an unknown drone crashed on the territory of a military unit in Poland. This was reported by the Polish military gendarmerie said in the social network X.
"The military gendarmerie department in Lodz is investigating an incident involving a small UAV that fell on the territory of the first air cavalry battalion in Leźnica Wielka on February 6 without causing any damage," the statement said.
An investigation is currently underway at the scene.
In the gendarmerie added the court noted that, according to the law on aviation, it is a crime to fly an aircraft over military areas and facilities. This is punishable by up to five years in prison.
This is not the first case in recent weeks. For example, on February 2 Radio ZET citing unnamed sources, reported that on January 28, an unknown drone crashed on the territory of a military unit in Prasnysz in northeastern Poland. The drone was found only 70 meters from an ammunition depot.
The incident occurred in a military unit where the second electronic intelligence center is located. This is a specialized unit that monitors radio space in northeastern Poland, in particular in the strategically important Suwalki Corridor area, the media reports.
The Suwalki Corridor is a narrow (about 65-100 km) strategically important stretch of land on the border between Poland and Lithuania. This isthmus connects the Baltic states with the rest of NATO's allies in Europe, while also separating the territory of Belarus from Russia's Kaliningrad region. Because of the risk of Russia blocking this route, the region is considered one of the Alliance's most vulnerable locations.
- On January 30, 2026, it was reported that Poland was starting to build own "shield" against Russian drones.
- Poland also suffers from balloons from Belarus. The military claims that Belarus is testing Polish air defense.
