Kyiv will receive additional electricity capacity after the massive Russian attack on February 7. About reported first deputy prime minister – minister of energy Denys Shmyhal.

"The situation with electricity supply remains difficult. Power engineers continue to restore the facilities hit by Russia on the night of February 7. The damage is significant. We are working on comprehensive solutions, including the launch of additional generation capacities. The work is progressing according to the schedule," the official said after a meeting of the Headquarters for the elimination of the consequences of the emergency situation in the energy sector.

In particular, the minister added, an additional 9 megawatts of capacity is expected to be launched in the capital on February 8.

For comparison, there are 300 generators, received Ukraine from partners the day before, with a total capacity of 1.6 MW. On January 16, Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko told Reuters that the capital needs a total of 1700 MW of electricity, pointing out that at that time the city had about half of the required amount.

Sunday also saw the highest daily volume of electricity imports, which helped Ukraine keep the system running after heavy Russian shelling and reduce the deficit, Shmyhal explained.

Earlier, on the morning of February 8, the energy holding DTEK reported on the return of temporary schedules to Kyiv.

National operator "Ukrenergo" said that in some regions the number of power outages has decreased.

  • During the attack on February 7, Moscow used 408 drones and 39 missiles – the defenders succeeded to counteract 382 and 24, respectively
  • Among the targets of the occupiers was the infrastructure on which the functioning of nuclear power plants depends – substations and power lines. As a result of the attacks, Ukrainian nuclear power plants reduced generation, at the same time, one of them was automatically turned off. Also, the occupiers attacked Burshtyn and Dobrotvir TPPs.
  • In the evening, the Ministry of Energy reported that the following days would be complex in terms of electricity.
