Among the targets of the occupiers during the massive attack on Ukraine on February 7 was the infrastructure on which nuclear power plants depend. About this reported president Volodymyr Zelenskyy based on the results of the corresponding selector.

"The Russians have deliberately attacked, in particular, energy facilities on which the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants depends, which threatens not only our security in Ukraine but also the common security of the region and Europe. We believe that our partners in America, Europe, and other countries who want peace should look at this soberly and act accordingly," the head of state emphasized.

According to him, real pressure is needed on Moscow to "bring about real changes in their intentions and overall prospects."

In an evening address, the president added that as a result of the strikes, Ukrainian NPPs reduced their generation, while one of them automatically shut down: "This is a level of strikes that no terrorist in the world has ever allowed himself."

In the morning, the Ministry of Energy indicated that the occupiers attacked substations and power lines with drones and missiles, which forced the NPP to reduce its power generation capacity.

After the selector, Zelenskyy also noted that the occupiers' attack caused significant damage to power facilities, which affected the situation virtually throughout Ukraine – there are significant blackouts.

The head of state reported on a "rather tough conversation" regarding the work of the mobile firing groups of the Defense Forces, announcing that in the coming days, the heads of regions, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense should further strengthen the component of such units in the system of defense of certain regions.

"I also expect to increase programs to support people, and the Ukrainian government has received specific tasks. Ukrainian diplomats should also accelerate their work with partners on support packages for our air defense and energy stability," Zelenskyy concluded.

Air Force noted that during the February 7 attack, Moscow used 408 drones and 39 missiles, while the Ukrainian defense managed to counteract 382 and 24 respectively. The head of the Ministry of Energy and first deputy prime minister Denys Shmyhal also reported about Russia's strikes on Burshtyn and Dobrotvir thermal power plants.

  • On January 17, the HUR reported that in order to force Kyiv to sign unacceptable surrender demands to end the war, Russia is considering striking at the substations that transmit electricity and ensure NPP operation.
  • Foreign minister Sybiha noted that Kyiv informs its partners of such plans and warns them of "potentially catastrophic consequences."
