The rector of the state Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts has been replaced, after more than 30 years of holding this position Mykhailo Poplavsky. This was reported by Glavkom who received an order to appoint an acting head of the educational institution.
According to the document, starting February 6, 2026, Ihor Komarnitsky, professor of the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Business, became the acting president of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.
The relevant decree was signed by the Minister of Education and Science Oxen Forest. It states that Komarnitsky will lead the university "until the appointment of a head in accordance with the procedure established by law or the appointment of another acting president, but no later than August 5, 2026."

Since the early 90s, Poplavsky has been the rector of the university. RBC-Ukraine citing unnamed sources in the Ministry of Education and Science, said that his contract had expired.
According to the 2014 Law on Higher Education, the same person may hold the position of rector of a university, academy or institute for no more than two consecutive terms (each for five years).
According to Glavkom, Komarnitsky was a member of Poplavsky's team, but in recent years he has drifted away from him. The KNUKiM is to hold elections for the head of the university in the near future.
LIGA.net sent a request to the Ministry of Education and Science.
Poplavsky is 76 years old, a Ukrainian singer, producer and longtime rector of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, and a member of parliament of several convocations. Over the years, he has repeatedly found himself at the center of public scandals, in particular because of the combination of his educational position with active political and show business activities.
At different times, there were discussions about the use of the university's image in his own creative and election campaigns, as well as about the terms of his contract and his reinstatement as rector through court decisions. Some criticism in the media was caused by his videos and public projects involving female students, which some people considered inappropriate for a university leader.
- On April 10, 2023, Poplavsky announced that he was stepping down as rector. At the time, he claimed that wants to delegate authority to a young successor, and he is ready to be the chairman of the Academic Council and help.
