DPRK launches several short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea
North Korea has launched several short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea. This was reported by news agency Yonhap with reference to the South Korean Armed Forces.
This is the first missile launch since South Korean President Lee Jae-myung took office.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it detected northeastward launches at about 08:10 (02:10 Kyiv time) from Chunghwa in the southern province of North Hwanghae in southern North Korea.
The launch took place on the eve of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, which will be held in South Korea from October 31 to November 1.
The last time before that, the DPRK launched short-range ballistic and cruise missiles toward the East Sea on May 8 and 22, respectively.
"Our military has stepped up monitoring in preparation for additional launches and maintains unwavering readiness while exchanging relevant information with the United States and Japan," the South Korean military said .
