During the talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, difficult political aspects that remain unresolved were discussed. About this said president Volodymyr Zelenskyy after the report of the Ukrainian delegation.

"This was the first trilateral dialog format for ending the war in a long time. The meetings discussed a range of important issues, primarily military, which are necessary to end the war. We also talked about complex political issues that have not yet been resolved," the head of state said about the negotiations held on January 23-24.

Zelenskyy noted that he and the delegation had reviewed the key positions of the parties and that he had "defined the framework" for further work in the negotiations.

The president also announced that Ukraine is preparing for new trilateral meetings this week. The next talks are scheduled to take place in the UAE during the same period, as previously reported by the US president's special envoy Steve Witkoff. Unnamed U.S. official claimed Reuters that new communication is expected on Sunday, February 1.

Until the last talks in Abu Dhabi, on January 22, Witkoff said that the peace talks had been reduced to one issue, but did not specify which one.

On the first day of the meetings in the UAE, the head of Ukraine reported that the Donbas issue will be the main one in the peace talks and that it will be discussed in Abu Dhabi.

The day after these meetings, Zelenskyy said that there were fewer problematic issues in the negotiations. At the same time, he recalled that for quite some time now, Moscow "wants to do everything to prevent Ukraine from being in the east of our country," but so far the occupiers have been unable to achieve this goal on the frontline.

The head of state noted that "everyone knows" Ukraine's position on its territory and territorial integrity, which must be respected.

"Yes, these are two different principled positions: Ukrainian and Russian. The Americans are trying to find a compromise. We are agreeing to communicate in a trilateral format. These are the first steps, perhaps, to find that compromise. But to reach a compromise, all parties need to be ready to compromise. By the way, the American side is also ready for a compromise," explained the president during his visit to Lithuania.
