Dozens of drones flew to Samara region: Novokuibyshevsk refinery could be targeted again
Drones attacked the Russian city of Novokuibyshevsk, home to a refinery that Ukraine has repeatedly attacked
On the night of January 2, drones attacked Russia, resulting in a fire in one of the districts of the city of Novokuibyshevsk, Samara region. This was reported by the Russian Telegram channel SHOT, citing local sources, and the relevant videos were shared on social media.
Local residents told SHOT that more than 10 powerful explosions were heard during the night. Eyewitnesses also reported bright flashes in the sky and a fire in one of the districts.
Local authorities did not comment on the situation, and the Russian Defense Ministry reported 64 allegedly downed or intercepted UAVs in the morning: 20 of them over the Samara region.
Locals say oil refinery may have been under attack.

JSC Novokuibyshevsk Oil Refinery is a Russian refinery in the Samara region, part of the Rosneft Group. The refinery's annual oil processing capacity is 8.8 million tons. In total, the company produces more than 20 types of commercial products and is one of the main producers of the highest grade fuel for jet engines of the Russian army. Ukraine has repeatedly attacked this refinery, in particular on the night of October 19, after which the plant stopped primary processing of raw materials.
