Moscow rejected the US proposal, according to which Washington would control Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and distributed electricity between Ukraine and Russia. This was reported by the agency Reuters with reference to an unnamed source familiar with the matter.

The article says that the fate of ZNPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, located in the territory occupied by Russia, has turned out to be a stumbling block.

One source said that Russia had rejected a US proposal under which Washington would control the plant and distribute electricity between Ukraine and Russia.

Moscow insists on controlling the plant, offering Ukraine cheap electricity. However, Kyiv considers this offer unacceptable, the source added.

ZNPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, located in Enerhodar, Zaporizhzhia region. It has six VVER-1000 power units with a total capacity of about 6 GW and until 2022 provided about a fifth of Ukraine's electricity production.
