Sikorsky: Turkey and China could become mediators in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia
According to the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, China can force Putin to make peace
Turkey and China may act as a mediator for the US in peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said at a conference with European Commission Vice President Kaia Kallas on May 8.
He expressed hope that the US efforts to achieve peace would be successful. But if not, there are other candidates.
"There is Turkey, which maintains communication channels. And most of all, the People's Republic of China, which is the only one with the means to force Putin to negotiate and reduce his demands," Sikorsky said.
On May 8, US Vice President J.D. Vance said that America could withdraw from the negotiation process to resolve Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine if the Kremlin is "dishonest."
- On April 25, Trump stated that Crimea would remain Russian and Zelensky supposedly understood this. In response, the Polish Foreign Minister recalled that it was the United States that convinced Ukraine not to fight for the island.
- On May 7, the US leader said that on the issue of the Russian-Ukrainian war and peace negotiations, "we are reaching a point where we will have to make certain decisions."
- On May 9, after speaking with Zelensky, Trump called for a 30-day ceasefire and threatened sanctions.
