The commander of the Russian submarine Varshavyanka, Aleksey Olkhovsky, who attacked Ukraine with Kalibr missiles, has been suspected in absentia. About said Security Service of Ukraine.

According to the SBU, Olkhovsky is a traitor. Since 2012, he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Crimea. But after the Russians seized the peninsula in 2014, he went over to the enemy and continued to serve in the Russian army.

He is the commander of combat unit No. 1 of the Russian submarine class 636.3 Varshavyanka (NATO classification – Kilo). According to the investigation, Olkhovsky took part in hostilities as the commander of a combat unit of a submarine of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

In this position, he was responsible for controlling and navigating the submarine, as well as plotting a course to combat positions from which the occupiers launch Kalibr cruise missiles at Ukraine. The submarine's "main targets" include civilian infrastructure and life support systems, the SBU said.

Based on the evidence gathered, Olkhovsky was notified in absentia of suspicion of high treason. Measures are being taken to bring him to justice, as he is located in the temporarily occupied part of the territory of Ukraine.
