"Strengthens Putin's parallel reality". Gerasimov lied about the capture of Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi
supplementedInformation about the capture of Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi in Kharkiv region by Russians is not true. About this reported Center for Countering Information at the National Security and Defense Council.
This disinformation, as well as the lie about the capture of Kupyansk, was publicly voiced by the head of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, on January 27. In fact, neither Kupyansk nor Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi is controlled by the Russians, the Center for Public Policy stated.
The head of the Center for Public Advocacy, Andriy Kovalenko, noted that Gerasimov "reinforces the parallel reality" of the Russian dictator with such statements Vladimir Putin.
"Another lie about the capture of Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi is quite funny, because neither Kupyansk nor Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi is controlled by Russians," Kovalenko said, adding that the mopping up of the occupants is nearing completion in Kupyansk.
The head of the Center believes that Russia's main goal in this story is to make their lies show the population "breakthroughs at the front" that do not actually exist. Russian bot farms will also spread these fakes to the West.
During an inspection of the Zapad troop group, video of which was published by the Russian Defense Ministry on the morning of January 27, Gerasimov announced the alleged capture of Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi. According to DeepState's map, the town is not under Russian control, but the "gray zone" has approached it.
- The Russian leadership regularly lies about its successes at the front. The Russians have repeatedly claimed about the alleged complete occupation of Kupiansk, Kharkiv region. However, in December, a stele at the entrance to the city visited Zelensky.
- As of December 22, 2025 in Kupyansk there were about 100 occupants. The Ukrainian Armed Forces said that the Russians are focused in one block in the city center.
