Ambassador: Ukraine will receive additional IRIS-T air defense systems from Germany in the near future

Germany will provide Ukraine with additional IRIS-T air defense missile systems. This was announced by German ambassador to Ukraine Heiko Thoms in an interview with Public.
"We have already handed over nine IRIS-T systems, as far as I know, and more IRIS-T systems are expected to be delivered in the near future," the diplomat said.
He noted that providing air defense is "critical" and that Berlin is now Kyiv's largest partner in this area.
Thoms also reminded that at the end of 2025, Germany supplied Ukraine with two more Patriot systems and continues to supply ammunition for air defense systems.
"I know that this is still not enough. As I said, I also live here and understand the situation, I know the realities. But we are doing everything we can and making every effort to support Ukraine, both through direct assistance to the energy sector and through the provision of air defense equipment," the ambassador added.
Earlier, on January 23, Helmut Rauch, CEO of the German company Diehl Defense, said that Ukraine had ordered 18 IRIS-T systems, Deutsche Welle broadcaster reported.
- On January 26, Germany's defense minister said that the country could no longer provide more Patriot systems to Kyiv and that the allies should increase support for Ukraine's air defense, as Berlin's capabilities in this area are already critically limited.
