Allies should increase their support for Ukraine's air defense, as Berlin's capabilities in this area are already critically limited. This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on January 26, after a joint press conference with Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas in Berlin, the Die Zeit.

The minister emphasized that Germany has already done "disproportionately much" to protect Ukraine's skies and has transferred more than a third of its own Patriot systems to Kyiv.

"We can't provide any more, as we are waiting for the replacement supplies ourselves," the politician explained.

He also reminded that Germany is the only supplier of Iris-T systems and "continuously provides them to Ukraine," but this is not enough against the backdrop of increased Russian shelling. The minister called on NATO and European Union partners to "find and supply" additional air defense equipment.

  • on December 16, 2025, it became known that Germany has handed over to Ukraine two Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems and another Iris-T system.
  • on December 20, Zelenskyy said that the partners had begun to "hold" missiles to air defense but are not yet ready to grant Ukraine licenses for their production.
  • january 1, 2026 to be put into service put two new Patriot air defense systems received from Germany.
  • on January 23, Zelensky announced that "positive" from Trump on missiles to Patriot, but emphasized the need to speed up deliveries.
