Russian-led cyberattacks on Italian embassies and venues for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympic Games have been repelled. This was stated by foreign minister Antonio Tajani, national news agency ANSA reports.

The official said that they managed to counter a series of cyberattacks against Italian diplomatic missions, in particular in the US capital Washington, as well as against some Olympic venues, including hotels in Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Tajani emphasized that these are actions led by Russia.

The Olympic Games will begin on February 6 and run through February 22. The host cities are the aforementioned alpine resort of Cortina and Milan, but competitions will also take place in other locations in northern Italy, including Verona.
