During an official visit to Spain, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov called for the transfer of new types of weapons to Ukraine, including air defense systems and warplanes. For this, it is necessary to create an international coalition, Euractiv cites the Ukrainian official as saying.

After the working meeting with the delegations from Spain and Ukraine, Reznikov thanked for the assistance provided by Spain and asked for further support. In particular, according to him, Ukraine is "very interested" in F-16 fighters.

The minister called for the creation of an "international air coalition" similar to the one created for the transfer of Leopard tanks. This is necessary in order to reach an agreement on sending fighter jets to Ukraine, the publication writes.

"I am convinced there will be a day when there will be such an air coalition. It is a question of time, money and political decision," he said.

According to Reznikov, for Ukraine to win the war, it would be "paramount to destroy Russia's dominance in the air," the outlet writes.

Madrid has not yet commented on the request, which requires NATO's consent in coordination with the EU.

On April 11, Minister Reznikov invited pilots who know how to fly F-16 aircraft to join the Foreign Legion.
