Western countries should not expect the upcoming spring counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to be the last, as Kyiv will prepare for further operations if necessary, foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba said.

In an interview with German newspaper Bild, Mr Kuleba stressed that "we don't know what will happen" when the counteroffensive starts.

"And if we manage to liberate our territories with this counter-offensive, then in the end you will say that yes, it was the last one, and if not, then we need to prepare for the next counter-offensive," he added.

Ukraine has been gearing up for an announced counteroffensive operation to happen somewhere in the spring, including by training troops and receiving armoured vehicles.

Last week, the White House said that the United States had done "just about everything we can" to make sure Ukraine is ready for the operation.
