President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree that, among other things, allows one-year contracts for military service for people over the age of mobilization during the war. The relevant document was published on the head of state's website.

Now, people aged 60 and over can sign a contract for a one-year period during martial law.

According to the amendments, such servicemen can extend their contract for the same period.

If martial law is terminated or canceled, such contracts are terminated early and individuals are dismissed from military service.

Other details:

→ during martial law, people aged 60+ are recruited for contract service on the basis of a letter (written consent) from the commander of a military unit;

→ the military medical commission must declare them fit for service for health reasons;

→ in order to join the army, these persons need to submit an appropriate request (application) and a letter from the military unit commander to the territorial recruitment center (TCC) at their place of residence or stay;

→ if a person is hired for an officer position, the letter from the commander of the military unit is provided only after the candidate is approved by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

  • Currently, men aged 25-60 are liable for military service in Ukraine during martial law.
  • On February 10, the minister of defense announced that during this plenary week the Verkhovna Rada is to consider a draft law on the possibility of obtaining a one-year postponement of mobilization after completing service under the "18-24" contract.
