US unlikely ‘spying’ on Zelensky, we have full trust – president’s representative
US intelligence is unlikely to be wiretapping Ukraine’s president, as Pentagon classified documents leaked to the press suggest, Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s representative in the parliament said to LIGA.net.
Fedir Venislavskyi, a Ukrainian MP from the Servant of the People party, believes it is hardly worth talking about any spying on the Ukrainian leadership, since Ukraine and the United States "have full trust."
"I think it was about the exchange of information, decisions that are made to coordinate our actions as closely as possible. They are already at a very good level. This is about leakage of information," Mr Venislavskyi said.
He noted that the military command has a clear understanding of the situation at the frontline, and decisions are made taking into account the maximum effectiveness of the Defence Forces' offensive.
"I don't think this [leak] will have any impact on our actions on the frontline. This is another manifestation of the Russian information campaign," Zelenskyy’s representative in the parliament stressed.
"But, just like during the offensive last year, I do not think it will be a problem for us."
On April 6, 2023, the New York Times reported a "leak" of allegedly classified documents from the Pentagon online, some of which relate to Ukraine's preparations for a counteroffensive (as of early March).
According to the leaked documents, the US used signals intelligence, which covers intercepted communications, that is those obtained from electronic signals from communication systems, radars and weapons systems.
It is not yet known to what extent these documents are forged, who leaked them to the Internet and for what purpose. The US believes that part of the "leak" was falsified by Russia. All sides say publicly that this could be psyops to deceive the adversary. Kyiv declared that it was fake and "it does not concern the real plans of Ukraine."
