The United States decided to continue negotiations with Iran, said US president Donald Trump following the meeting with the prime minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump called the meeting with Netanyahu and a number of his representatives "very good." But at the same time, he wrote that "nothing definitive reached other than I insisted that negotiations with Iran continue" to see if a deal can be struck.

"If it can, I let the prime minister know that will be a preference. If it cannot, we will just have to see what the outcome will be," the US leader added.

He recalled that the last time Tehran "decided it was better for them not to make a deal" – and the United States hit its nuclear facilities in June 2025.

The US president hopes that this time the Islamic Republic will be "more reasonable and responsible."

Despite Trump's positive assessment of the meeting, the Israeli prime minister is very skeptical about the prospects for diplomacy with Iran and tends to support military action, indicates Axios media.

It notes that Trump and Netanyahu also made divergent public statements before Israel struck Iran in June 2025, and then closely coordinated in this operation.

The day before, on February 10, the US president said that he was considering sending a second aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East to prepare for military action if negotiations with Tehran failed, but at the same time he positively assessed the dialog.

  • The last talks between Washington and Tehran took place in Oman on February 6, for the first time since the US strikes and the 12-day war between Iran and Israel in June 2025. WSJ interlocutors stated that the new talks have seen the Islamic Republic maintain its refusal to stop enriching nuclear fuel.
  • On February 11, Reuters wrote that oil futures rose in price, in particular, under the influence of continued instability in the US-Iranian negotiations.
  • Deputy director of the Center for Middle East Studies Danylov stated LIGA.net that Iran cannot meet the demands of the United States in the negotiations, and a possible American strike on the Islamic Republic will be positive for Ukraine.
