Ukraine and SpaceX solve the problem of using Starlink on Russian drones

The Ministry of Defense and the American company SpaceX are jointly solving the problem of using Starlink satellite communication terminals on Russian drones. About reported defense minister Mikhail Fedorov.
He said that a few hours after Russian UAVs with Starlink connectivity appeared over Ukrainian cities, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry promptly contacted SpaceX and suggested ways to solve the problem.
Fedorov thanked SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and, personally, the company's owner and founder, Elon Musk, for the quick response and the start of work to resolve the situation.
He added that Musk's decision to urgently turn on Starlink and send the first batch of terminals to Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion was critical to resilience.
Fedorov emphasized that Western technology should continue to help the democratic world and protect civilians and not be used for terror and the destruction of peaceful cities.
Starlink is a global satellite Internet access system created by SpaceX. It operates because of thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit, which ensures fast and stable communication even in remote regions.
Starlink provides Internet access in places where traditional telecommunications infrastructure is not available. In Ukraine, the system became especially important during the war, providing communications for the military, medical personnel, and critical infrastructure. As of today, Starlink is used in dozens of countries around the world and continues to expand its network.
- Russians, probably, first used starlink satellite Internet on "shaheds" by attacking helicopters near Kropyvnytskyi on January 24, 2026.
- On January 26, it became known that a Russian drone equipped with Starlink flew to Dnipro.
