"We need assistance". Umerov went to Turkey to negotiate the resumption of exchanges

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov is on a working visit to Turkey. The purpose of the talks between Ukraine and Turkey is to resume prisoner exchanges with Russia. This was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement on January 1.

According to Zelenskyy, Rustem Umerov met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Turkish intelligence chief Kalin in Ankara.

"We need this assistance to bring our Ukrainians home from Russian captivity. Last year, the exchanges were active, but unfortunately, they slowed down at the end of the year, and now we need to resume them," Zelensky said.

Umerov is also in daily contact with American and European partners, the president said.

• Earlier, the president said that the peace plan includes provisions for the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russians and the exchange of all prisoners ukrainians. The Head of State spoke about this during a conversation with the media.
