Zelenskyy: US confirms participation in monitoring potential ceasefire

The United States is ready to participate in monitoring a potential ceasefire in Russia's war against Ukraine. This was announced at a meeting with journalists by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reports the correspondent LIGA.net.
He said that the military had held a conversation and understood how, if a decision is made to end the war, the ceasefire would be technically monitored by Ukraine, Russia, and the United States.
"That is, the United States confirms its participation. With regard to Europe, this does not mean that they will not be involved in this process. I'm just saying what was discussed and what was not discussed at this meeting in Abu Dhabi," the Head of State explained.
Zelenskyy also announced a change in the rhetoric of the Russian delegation at the talks. Now, the Russians are talking about more specifics, including monitoring the ceasefire.
"The military discussed technical monitoring of how the ceasefire could be implemented. The military accepts the idea that the Americans should monitor, if the Americans agree to it. The Americans know our position: we want foreigners to be there, including Americans, to make the ceasefire and monitoring real. The Americans are not ready to talk about other foreigners, because they are ready to talk about themselves, and they understand that they will be ready to support this," he said.
The President added that the American side says that they can guarantee monitoring and how to technically ensure such monitoring, meaning that they are in the process of determining the details.
- During the talks in Abu Dhabi on February 4-5 with the participation of Ukraine, Russia and the United States the parties reached an agreement on the exchange of prisoners, and methods of implementing and monitoring the ceasefire were also discussed.
