Cherkasy region replaces police chief after fatal shooting

Head of the National Police Ivan Vyhivskyi introduced the new head of the Main Department of the National Police in Cherkasy region, Police Colonel Mezhennyi, to the personnel and representatives of the authorities and law enforcement agencies.
Prior to that, he held senior positions in police units in Donetsk region and has "experience in organizing service activities in conditions of increased complexity."
Vyhivskyi outlined the priority tasks facing the Cherkasy police.
"First of all, it is important to ensure cooperation with all law enforcement agencies, local authorities, NGOs and communities. We must work together for the security of the entire region," he said.
In fact, Mezhennyi's entire career is connected with Donetsk region. He began his service in the police in 2003. In different years, he worked in Bakhmut, Lyman and Mariupol. Since January 2026, Mezhennyi has served as the acting head of the Donetsk regional police.
The head of the regional police changed after the murder four police officers. on February 3, the then head of the National Police in Cherkasy region, Oleh Hudyma, temporarily suspended his duties while the shooting was being investigated.
