Poland has started construction of an electronic fence on the border with Kaliningrad Oblast of the Russian Federation, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Poland, Mariusz Kaminski, said, adding that the works are planned to be completed in September 2023, PAP reports.

An electronic barrier, i.e. a system of cameras and motion sensors, will be installed on 199 kilometers of the border. It will cover the entire land border with Russia, with the exception of the section of the Vistula Spit, where the border has been guarded by electronic devices for several years.

Thus, Poland will have complete monitoring of what is happening on the border with the aggressor state, says the interior minister.

The spokeswoman of the Polish Border Guard, Lieutenant Anna Michalska, noted that the barrier will be divided into 12 functional sections. About 2,000 video surveillance towers, 3,000 video cameras and 700 kilometers of power, transmission and signal cables will be installed on them.

According to her, construction work has begun in the area of border posts in Bezledy and Sępopol, where the foundations of pillars for surveillance cameras and laying power and transmission cables are being laid.

More than $83 million has been allocated for the construction of the barrier.

In January 2023, it was reported that Poland had completed the construction of a barrier along the entire border with Belarus.

On February 23, Poland placed anti-tank barriers on the border with Russia.

On March 17, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak called on volunteers to join the ranks of the Polish Army. He also announced plans to place HIMARS rocket systems on the border with the Russian Federation.
